"Onwards and Upwards" — A Poem From Al

onwards and upwards reader stories stop drinking alcohol

Every so often something lands in my inbox that stops me in my tracks.

Al found the channel about ten months ago, made the change, and after a conversation we had this week he sat down and wrote this. He's happy for me to share it. I'm not posting it to pat myself on the back — I'm posting it because if you're wondering whether any of this is worth it, Al says it better than I could.

In his words:

"Onwards and Upwards"
For - Kevin O'Hara
From - Al

"For me and many others the videos land,
Sparks in the dark, lines in the sand,
What a wonderful thing to do with your life,
To leave fragments of hope, immortally across the internet for those in need to keep them away from the afterlife,

Sometimes hard hitting, forceful, honest and true,
Sometimes a seed planted - like with me - that has taken 10 months - and has grew,
I am quite sure that without you and your videos my days would be numbered my impact, impotent, stunted and blunted,
Instead, having saved nearly 500 lives I release bridges for all on December 1st and I do it clear headed and sharp and have reclaimed my peace,

You stop death and have my respect for the utter conviction on your path,
Clearly having fought against your own wrath,
You son, your partner, your family must be so incredibly proud,
And your videos will last long after you ad I are gone,
What a light, a beacon, a legacy to leave,
An immortal imprint of positivity for those not yet born,
Who fall prey to alcohol they have not yet drank,
You, have armed and given a weapon to them - on behalf of the future - thanks!

Without your videos I don't think, for me, this alcohol habit would cease,
So here is this promise and commitment I make to myself today,
The Scot in me rejoices, commits and shall celebrate today,
Onwards and upwards - as my Irish friend Kevin would say!"

Thank you, Al. Onwards and upwards.
